Three men have been charged after a train was vandalised in Sydney overnight.
On Saturday 15 August 2020, police attached to Transport Action Group North Central and Sydney Trains Security commenced a joint operation targeting malicious damage offences being carried out on trains at Central Railway Station.
About 1.50am today (Sunday 16 August 2020), three men aged – 26, 27 and 28 – were detected on CCTV allegedly walking along a rail corridor at Redfern Railway Station before making their way to Central Railway Station.
Police allege the men then spray-painted graffiti on two carriages of a train while it was stopped at the station.
About 4am, they were detected on CCTV on Railway Parade, Erskineville, before entering a car nearby.
Police were notified and stopped the vehicle, arresting three men inside.
During a search of the vehicle, officers seized a number of spray cans, mobile phones and other items allegedly connected to the incident.
The men were taken to Newtown Police Station and were charged with destroy or damage property, go onto running lines, and possess graffiti implement with intent to contravene.
They were all granted conditional bail to appear at Newtown Local Court on Tuesday 1 September 2020.
