Police charge two after investigation into man's death at Bungendore

A man and woman have been charged following the death of a 56-year-old man in Bungendore earlier this year.

About 7.25pm on Saturday 23 February 2019, NSW Ambulance paramedics attended a home at Hope Drive in Bungendore, where they treated an unconscious man who was reported to have fallen.

The injured man was taken to Canberra Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he died two days later.

Inquiries into the death of the man were originally conducted by officers from ACT Policing before being transferred to the NSW Police Force and the Coroner on 27 February 2019.

A post-mortem examination revealed the man had suffered significant head injuries.

Strike Force Kokal, led by officers from Monaro Police District, was established to investigate the circumstances of the man's death.

Earlier today (Thursday 27 June 2019) police attended a home in Bungendore and arrested a 21-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman.

Police will allege a fight took place between the two men that day in February, with police alleging the younger man assaulted the older man, which resulted in the older man falling backwards and hitting his head.

Police will also allege the 48-year-old woman has been complicit in providing authorities with incorrect information.

The 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter.

The 48-year-old woman has been charged with accessory after the fact of manslaughter.

Both have been refused bail and will appear before Queanbeyan Local Court today (Thursday 27 June).
