Police charge two after public place shooting at Queanbeyan

Two men will face court after a man was allegedly shot in the leg during a traffic altercation in Queanbeyan earlier this month.

About 4.15am Saturday (2 November 2019), shots were allegedly fired at a dark blue Toyota Echo travelling along Molongolo Street, Queanbeyan.

An 18-year-old man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District were called to a home in Queanbeyan following the alleged incident and established a crime scene, before seizing a blue Toyota Echo for forensic examination.

The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and initially refused medical treatment before attending a hospital in the ACT.

Strike Force Lotterie was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, about 11.20am Monday (25 November 2019), a 31-year-old man was arrested at a home in Queanbeyan.

Police will allege the man was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

The man was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station, where he was charged with concealing a serious offence.

He has since been granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Queanbeyan Local Court on Tuesday 7 January 2020.

About 11.25am on Tuesday (26 November 2019), a 33-year-old man was arrested by officers from Queensland Police Service at Broadbeach, Queensland.

He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with discharging a firearm with intent, fire firearm likely to cause injury, police pursuit and other firearms and traffic offences.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 2 December 2019.

The car involved in the alleged offence was seized at an address in the ACT by ACT Police on Wednesday (27 November 2019).

Police inquiries are continuing.
