Police charge two after pursuit leads to drug warrant

A 27-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were arrested by police after a pursuit lead to a drugs search warrant in St Albans on Monday morning.

It is alleged a black Holden Astra Audi was observed by a Dog Squad unit on the Bolte Bridge about 2.20am.

The Dog Squad unit attempted to intercept the speeding car, but the driver fled, travelling at speeds of 160 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

Air Wing tracked the pursuit and the vehicle stopped in Beavers Street, St Albans.

Three people ran from the car but were arrested after a short foot pursuit.

The driver or the vehicle, a 24-year-old Parkdale man, was arrested and charged with driving offences including drive in a manner dangerous and reckless conduct endangering serious injury. The vehicle was impounded.

The 27-year-old female passenger was allegedly found to be in possession of a traffickable quantity of methylamphetamine.

A search warrant was executed at a St Albans address, where police seized more methylamphetamine, cannabis and ecstasy, as well as cash and other property suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The woman has been charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, possess proceeds of crime and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

The pair have been remanded in custody.

A third passenger was released pending further enquiries.

This arrest is a great example of collaboration between multiple Victoria Police work units, with members from the Dog Squad, Air Wing, Public Order Response Team, Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit and Sunshine uniform involved.
