Police charge two after theft of police car in Yallourn

Police have charged two men following a pursuit through Gippsland yesterday afternoon.

The duo, aged 28 and 20, were both charged with aggravated burglary, possess controlled/prohibited weapon, criminal damage and theft of motor vehicle.

The 28-year-old Cranbourne man was also charged with theft of a police vehicle, conduct endangering serious injury, driving manner dangerous, attempted carjacking and commit indictable offence while on bail.

Both men were remanded in custody to face Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Police will allege the charges relate to a series of incidents yesterday including an aggravated burglary in Glengarry, the theft of an unmarked police car in Yallourn and a collision with a civilian vehicle at Yarragon.

The civilian vehicle driver, a 63-year-old man, sustained serious injuries during the collision.

Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation as per normal procedure.
