Police Charge Two In Vehicle With Cloned Plates

Two men have been charged after police spotted them in a vehicle with cloned plates in Melton on 30 April.

The Ford Falcon was observed just after midday on Coburns Road and continued onto the Western Freeway.

Police attempted to intercept the car in Ballan when the driver sped off, heading toward the Ballarat airport.

It's alleged the vehicle was clocked at speeds at up to 180kmh, monitored by Air Wing.

Stop sticks were deployed successfully just after 2pm on Stawell-Avoca Road in Navarre.

The driver continued at speed and eventually stopped on Bolangum Inn Road in Paradise.

The two men fled on foot but were arrested a short time later.

A 40-year-old Winter Valley man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and going equipped to steal.

A 43-year-old Stawell man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving whilst pursed by police, fail to stop on police direction, reckless conduct serious injury, drive manner dangerous, drive speed dangerous, disqualified driving, affix false plates & going equipped to steal.

Both men have been bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates' court on the 20 September.
