Police charge two men after aggravated break and enters at Thirroul

Two men have been charged after police found a man leaving the scene of an alleged break and enter at Thirroul.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 June 2020), officers from Wollongong Police District were patrolling Station Street when they located a stolen Hyundai Getz hatchback parked in the street.

Police will allege a man was seen leaving the front yard of a house in Station Street and entering the Hyundai. Officers approached the man - searching him and the car – and located property believed to be stolen.

The 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

Police continued to search the street when they noticed a second man on a bicycle leaving another house. The 18-year-old man attempted to ride away from police and was arrested.

Further inquiries revealed two other houses in the area had been broken into - including one with a 97-year-old woman.

Both men were charged with break and enter and aggravated break and enter. The 23-year-old man was also charged with drive conveyance taken without consent.

They were refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 1 July 2020).
