Police charge two men after Melton shooting

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have charged two men following a shooting in Melton on 7 February.

A 28-year-old Tarneit man was arrested yesterday in Tarneit and subsequently charged with the following offences:

• Prohibited person possess firearm;

• Possess ammunition without a licence;

• Possess a firearm when a Firearms Prohibition Order applies;

• Possess a firearm related item when a Firearms Prohibition Order applies;

• Possess prohibited weapon;

• Theft of motor vehicle x 5;

• Traffick heroin;

• Possess heroin;

• Handle stolen goods;

• Contravene bail conditions; and

• Commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

A 31-year-old Derrimut man was arrested in Derrimut yesterday with assistance from the Special Operations Group and has since been charged with the following offences:

• Prohibited person possess firearm;

• Possess ammunition without a licence;

• Possess a firearm when a Firearms Prohibition Order applies;

• Possess a firearm related item when a Firearms Prohibition Order applies;

• Theft of motor vehicle x 3; and

• Possess 1,4 Butanediol.

Both men were subject to a current Firearm Prohibition Order.

The pair were remanded in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

As part of the investigation, police also searched residential properties in Tarneit and Derrimut using FPO search provisions and located a number of items including:

• Two loaded firearms;

• Ammunition;

• Holsters;

• Drugs believed to be heroin, 1,4 Butanediol and steroids;

• Batons;

• An allegedly stolen vehicle and two allegedly stolen motorcycles;

• Allegedly stolen numberplates; and

The arrests follow an incident on 7 February where a 25-year-old Melton man was conveyed to hospital with a gunshot wound.
