Police Charge Two Over Assault Of Man - Murrumbidgee

Two men have been charged over the alleged assault of a 31-year-old man in the state's Riverina region earlier this week.

On Friday 28 August 2026, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District commenced an investigation following a report of an assault at a licenced premise on Yapunyah Street, Barellan, about 55km east of Griffith.

Police were told two men had assaulted a 31-year-old man about 9.30pm that evening.

The 31-year-old sustained serious injuries to his face and self-presented to Griffith Base Hospital for further treatment. He has since been discharged.

Following extensive inquiries, about 2.15pm yesterday (Saturday 29 August 2026), officers arrested two men – aged 42 and 38 – at Barellan Showgrounds Road, Barellan, before they were taken to Griffith Police Station.

The 42-year-old was charged with reckless wounding – in company and common assault, whilst the younger man was charged with reckless wounding – in company.

Both men were granted conditional bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
