Police charge two over shooting murder of Bandidos OMCG senior member

Two men have been charged by Homicide Squad detectives investigating the shooting murder of a senior member of an outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) in the state's Central West earlier this year.

About 10.50am on Tuesday 14 January 2020, police and emergency services responded to reports a man had been shot at a property on Catombal Road, Eurimbla, about 50km south of Wellington.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District attended and located the body of a 60-year-old man inside the home. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The man has been formally identified as Bandidos OMCG Central West Chapter President, Shane De Britt.

A crime scene was established at the property and examined by specialist forensic officers.

The State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, assisted by Criminal Groups Squad and Orana Mid-Western Police District detectives, commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death under Strike Force Kerrison.

Following extensive investigations, detectives, with assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU), arrested two men – aged 58 and 39 – at a rural property near Stuart Town, about 34km south of Wellington, from 6am today (Friday 28 August 2020).

A short time later, officers executed a search warrant at the property, where investigators seized evidence relevant to the homicide investigation.

Officers were assisted throughout the operation by Orana Mid-Western Police District, the Criminal Groups Squad, police divers from the Marine Area Command, PolAir, the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), and the Dog Unit.

The men were taken to Dubbo Police Station, where the older man was charged with murder, unauthorised possession of firearms in aggravated circumstances, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The younger man was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, unauthorised possession of firearms in aggravated circumstances and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Both men were refused bail to appear via video link before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 29 August 2020).

Investigations by Strike Force Kerrison detectives are continuing.
