Police charge two over theft, imitation firearms at Dapto

Two men will face court today after imitation firearms were allegedly seized during a search warrant in Dapto.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended a home in Dapto yesterday (Wednesday 26 February 2020) to arrest a man wanted for outstanding warrants.

On arrival, officers located a motorbike believed to be stolen from a break and enter at a Wollongong business in June 2019.

A search warrant was applied for and executed shortly after, with officers locating and seizing two replica firearms, ammunition and power tools believed to be stolen.

Two men – aged 33 and 35 – were arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The 33-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, goods suspected stolen in/on premises, two counts of possess unauthorised firearm and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit.

The 35-year-old man was charged with goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

Both men were refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 27 February 2020).
