Police Charge Woman After Abbotsford Incident

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a woman with attempted murder following an alleged assault in Fitzroy North yesterday.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, was jogging along Merri Creek Trail when the incident took place near High Street about 10.45am.

Police will allege the victim sustained serious head injuries in the unprovoked attack before passer-by's came to her aid.

She was taken to hospital where she remains with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 29-year-old offender fled the scene before officers arrested her in the area a short time later.

She was interviewed and subsequently charged with one count of attempted murder and intentionally cause injury.

She will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
