Police charge woman after pursuit - Marrickville

A woman will face court today charged following a pursuit with police in Sydney's Inner West overnight.

About 11.15pm (Thursday 14 November 2019), officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were patrolling Marrickville Road, Marrickville, when a Kia Rio was seen to allegedly disobey a red traffic light at the intersection of Illawarra Road.

Police attempted to stop the Kia; however, it failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

The officers followed the vehicle to John Street, Petersham - a no through road - and blocked the street, preventing the Kia from leaving.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman and a male passenger were removed from the vehicle and arrested. The man was later released.

Following a search of the vehicle, police allegedly found prescription drugs inside.

The woman was taken to Newtown Police Station where she was charged with proceed through red traffic light, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive with suspended licence, and possess prohibited drug.

She was refused bail and is due to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Friday 15 November 2019).
