Police charge woman over attempted child abduction - Riverwood

A woman will appear in court today charged over the alleged attempted abduction of a child in Sydney's south-west last year.

About 3.25pm on Friday 30 December 2022, a woman and her nine-year-old granddaughter were sitting at a bus stop on Kentucky Road, Riverwood.

A woman – who was unknown to them – approached them and allegedly grabbed the girls arm and attempted to pull her away.

The grandmother fought the woman off, before the woman fled the scene into a unit complex nearby.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command were notified, attended the scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, a 48-year-old woman was arrested at the unit block later the same day and spoken to by police, before being taken to hospital.

The woman was released from hospital yesterday (Friday 27 January 2023) and taken to Campsie Police Station.

She was charged with attempt take/detain child with intent to remove from parental control, two counts of common assault, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and assault police officer in execution of duty.

The woman was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 28 January 2023).
