A woman has been charged with multiple offences following a police pursuit in the state's south.
About 7pm yesterday (Friday 12 March 2021), police were patrolling the Olympic Highway, Wallendbeen, after receiving reports about the manner of driving of a silver Mazda 3.
Officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol Cootamundra saw the vehicle allegedly travelling in excess of the 60km/h sign-posted speed limit.
A pursuit was initiated after the Mazda allegedly failed to stop when indicated and accelerated away from police.
A short time later the Mazda crashed a guard rail.
The female driver, aged 26, who was the sole occupant was arrested at the scene. It was established that she was disqualified from driving until February 2022.
A search of the Mazda located a pair of stolen NSW registration plates, two knives, a quantity of methylamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia items.
The woman was conveyed to Cootamundra Base Hospital for a blood and urine analysis.
She was later taken to Cootamundra Police Station and charged with the following offences:
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive vehicle under influence of drugs
- Goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen
- 2 x Custody of knife in public place
- Possess prohibited drug
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
The woman from Young was granted conditional bail to appear before Cootamundra Local Court on Monday 3 May 2021.
