Police Complete Latest Phase Of Search For Missing Four-year-old Gus

Police have today concluded a renewed search of Oak Park Station for four-year-old Gus Lamont who was last seen late on 27 September 2025.

The initial search and this week's four-day operation involved SA Police, ADF members, SES volunteers, trackers and local property owners. Extensive resources including Polair, drones, infrared technology and satellite technology have been used to support the ground searchers.

The ground search undertaken this week by SA Police, ADF members and SES volunteers at Oak Park Station extended to a 5.5km radius from the homestead. This equates to 95 sqkm searched on foot.

The original search area extended well beyond this with the use of the mounted operations unit and Polair. This area has been estimated at 470 sqkm.

Police had been hopeful the extensive ground searches would uncover any evidence of Gus, but this has not been the case.

The fact Gus is a small child, the terrain is extremely rugged, harsh and subject to changing weather conditions has made the searching difficult and more challenging for those involved. Each of these factors may have contributed to the lack of evidence discovered. The location also presents less opportunities for police searching for a missing person, compared with an urban environment.

Police have been making every effort to return Gus to his family through detailed, meticulous and protracted searching of the property and this remains a priority.

In the initial stages police had hoped to find Gus alive, but sadly the search has become a recovery operation. The search for Gus has been one of the largest operations of its type conducted by SA Police and all involved were initially intensely focused on locating him alive, but this shifted to a determination to provide some closure for his family.

The family of Gus Lamont have continued to cooperate fully with police and are being supported by a victim contact officer.

The search of Oak Park station has been methodically planned and executed by experts in this field. The search has been reviewed by senior officers not involved in the operation and subject to constant reviews to ensure completeness.

Further searches of the property will be considered in future as Task Force Horizon investigations continue.
