A man was safely rescued following a co-ordinated police rescue effort both on land and water on Sunday night.
The skipper and sole occupant, travelling south from NSW, encountered rough seas when he attempted to enter Lakes Entrance just after 11pm on 12 October.
While trying to gain control of his 6.6m catamaran, the 41-year-old sustained a broken wrist as it began taking water.
He contacted emergency services which saw local officers from Lakes Entrance walk 2.5km along the beach to the vessel, which was about 35 metres from the shore and 100m east of the entrance.
Water Police officers arrived and began to monitor the situation while Air Wing crews directed the man into the water where they winched him to safety.
He was taken to hospital for with mild hyperthermia and for treatment to his wrist.
Water Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
