Police execute warrants after northern suburbs shootings

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have executed several warrants this morning as part of an investigation into two firearms incidents in the northern suburbs which police believe to be linked.

With assistance from the Special Operations Group, VIPER Taskforce, the Dog Squad and North West Metro Regional Crime Squad, warrants were executed early this morning in Greenvale and Craigieburn.

A 22-year-old Craigieburn man has been arrested and will now be interviewed by police.

A white Holden Commodore was subsequently seized from the Greenvale address.

The first incident occurred at a property in Thomastown over the course of two days in January.

Emergency services were called to the Barry Road property after people nearby reported hearing gunshots about 1am on Tuesday 24 January.

Police became aware of a previously unreported shooting which occurred at the same address about 5am the previous day, 23 January.

It is believed shots were fired into the property and a 40-year-old Thomastown man received a gunshot wound to his arm.

The second incident occurred on Friday, 10 February when a 27-year-old Greenvale man self-presented to hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police believe the shooting occurred at approximately 11pm in the vicinity of Guildford Avenue in Coolaroo.

A white Toyota Camry was captured on CCTV driving away from the address at a fast speed.

As part of this investigation, investigators are today releasing CCTV of the vehicle they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries in the hope someone can provide information about its whereabouts.

Investigators are also keen to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Guildford Avenue, Coolaroo at the time and has dashcam footage or is yet to speak to police.

Detectives are looking at possible links between both shootings and Middle Eastern organised crime groups and believe incidents to be targeted.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police are urging anyone with information or with dashcam footage of any of the incidents to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link.
