Police hot on trail-er of drink-driver at Parafield Gardens

A driver had a lucky escape this morning at Parafield Gardens, when the trailer his van was towing caught fire and was towed for about two kilometres.

About 4am today (Sunday 1 September), an ambulance crew saw a Toyota van on Kings Road towing a trailer that had tipped on to its side. A diesel fuel container inside the trailer had ignited, and the driver was flagged down by the paramedics.

He stopped the van on Kings Road, where police and fire crews attended.

The fire was extinguished, and the man was not injured.

However, his luck ran out when he underwent a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.294.

The 32-year-old Parafield Gardens man was reported for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol, he was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
