Police Hunt Witnesses, Dashcam in Blue Mountains Crashes

Police investigating reports of multiple crashes across the Blue Mountains today are appealing for anyone with dashcam vision to come forward.

Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command are now investigating reports of at least seven separate incidents allegedly involving a white Hyundai Santa Fe.

Triple Zero (000) operators began receiving calls from drivers shortly before 10.30am (Monday 29 September 2025), reporting the vehicle was being driven erratically east along the Great Western Highway between Mt Victoria and Glenbrook.

At least seven crashes were reported, with some reports that the driver was forcing others off the road.

One of the crashes involving a Honda SUV occurred about 10.40am on the Great Western Highway, Hazelbrook; the driver of the Hyundai allegedly left the scene after the collision.

A short time later, police were called to the Great Western Highway near Glenbrook after a Hyundai, matching the description, and a BMW SUV allegedly collided.

The driver of the Hyundai allegedly left the scene on foot, before being chased and detained by an off-duty police officer in McCauley Crescent. During the arrest, police allege the driver – a 31-year-old man from Oatley – bit the off-duty officer on the right side of his chest.

Passers-by intervened and the driver was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Nepean Hospital for further assessment. He remains there under police guard.

The off-duty officer was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to the same hospital for further treatment.

Police hope to speak with the man once he is deemed well enough.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed and/or have dashcam vision relevant to the investigation to contact Springwood Police.
