Police investigate Balaclava assault

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an assault in Balaclava last month, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told two men were at a licensed premises on Carlisle Street when one of the men had a verbal altercation with another man about 6.30pm.

The offender stood up and swung a punch at one of the victims but did not hit the man.

Both men left the premises immediately and were approached by the offender about 500 metres away from the venue.

One of the victims stood between the offender and his friend in an attempt to difuse the situation but was subsequently assaulted by the offender, causing facial injuries.

The offender then assaulted the second man causing him to fall to the ground.

The man the fled on foot towards Orange Grove in Balaclava.

The victims, 27-year-old Elwood man sustained lacerations to his face and required hospital treatment.

His 31-year-old friend sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Investigators have release an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries and they are wanting to speak to a number of witnesses and identify any footage that is relevant to the incident.
