Police Investigate Carlton And Fitzroy Incidents

Police are continuing to investigate the stabbing of two men in Carlton on 31 December and the fatal shooting of a teenage boy in Fitzroy on 3 January.

Both incidents have been determined to be gang-related.

Victoria Police Crime Command detectives, together with regional police and other specialist units including Taskforce VIPER, have established Operation Firelong to investigate both incidents and prevent ongoing violence between gang members.

The Homicide Squad is continuing to investigate the Fitzroy shooting, which occurred shortly after midnight near the intersection of Brunswick and King William streets.

Medical assistance was provided however the 16-year-old Fitzroy boy passed away at the scene.

The offenders fled the area in a vehicle prior to police arriving.

The Gang Crime Squad and Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit are working jointly to investigate the Carlton stabbing.

Two men were injured during an altercation with a group of up to seven males on Lygon Street about 11.45pm.

A 20-year-old Heidelberg West man and an 18-year-old NSW man sustained serious injuries and were conveyed to hospital.

The offending group had been armed with knives and machetes, and also fled the scene before police arrived.

Police are continuing to work to establish whether there are any links between the two incidents, and the investigations remain ongoing.

Detectives urge anyone with information about the incidents, including the identity of those involved and the motivation for the attacks, to come forward.
