Police investigate Fitzroy death

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Fitzroy this afternoon.

Emergency services were called after a man was located in the street on Brunswick Street with life-threatening injuries shortly after 4.15pm.

It's believed the man was involved in an altercation with a number of people at a vehicle parked on Brunswick Street before being fatally shot.

Passers by located the man and subsequently called triple zero.

Ambulance crews treated the man, who is yet to be formally identified, but he died at the scene.

Police have cordoned off the area and a crime scene has been established.

Detectives are still working to determine the exact circumstances of the incident but at this stage it appears to be a targeted incident with the parties involved possibly known to each other.

Police would like to speak anyone who witnessed anything or has CCTV or dashcam vision of the incident.
