Police investigate hit-run collision at Brighton East

Major Collision Investigation Group detectives are on the scene of a fatal hit-run collision which occurred in Brighton East earlier this evening, Victoria Police say.

The crash happened on the Nepean Highway near the intersection of Union Street at 8pm.

Investigators believe that a south-bound motorcyclist crashed into the rear of an early model Holden sedan, which was also travelling south.

The motorcycle and the car burst into flames following the impact.

The rider, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

Two occupants who managed to get out of the Holden sedan, a man and a woman, fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
