Police investigate Loxton fire, South Australia

Riverland Police are investigating the cause of a scrub fire at Loxton overnight.

Just after 12.30am Friday 1 November, police and fire crews were called to reports of a fire in an area north of Tanko Crescent and Stasinowsky Court in the Loxton township.

The fire burning in Mallee scrub was burning south-west towards homes in Tanko Crescent. Police door knocked houses of local residents advising them of the fire and giving them the option to self-evacuate.

Several CFS and MFS units were quick to respond. It took sometime to bring the fire under control, with the CFS deeming the fire contained just before 4.30am.

About 20 hectares of scrub was burnt in the blaze with the only damage caused to a small pump shed.

CFS crews will remain on scene mopping up and putting out spot fires in the area today, especially with very hot dry conditions forecast.
