Detectives are investigating an assault in Melbourne this morning which left a man with serious injuries, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told the man was walking on Batman Avenue when he was involved in an altercation with an unknown person about 7.30am this morning.
The man, believed to be in his 60s, sustained significant head injuries and a possible stab wound to his body during the altercation.
He was conveyed by ambulance to hospital in a serious condition.
Detectives have released the composite image of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries and a bag similar to what this man was carrying at the time of the assault.
