Police investigate Mount Martha aircraft incident

Police are investigating a plane crash in Mount Martha this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports two small planes collided over Port Phillip Bay about 1.45pm.

Investigators were told one plane crashed into the water, while the other safely landed in Essendon.

Air Wing, Water Police and uniform officers are continuing to search for the plane in the water.

It is believed the two planes were flying over the bay, which two people on board in each aircraft.

Officers believe the aircrafts would have been visible from Mount Martha between 1:00pm and 2pm.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with vision of the planes.

Investigations are ongoing and the ATSB has been notified.
