Police investigate Preston aggravated burglary

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released an image of a man following an aggravated burglary in Preston on Sunday (9 June).

Investigators have been told an unknown man entered a Murray road home sometime between 9am and 9.30am and was confronted by a 14-year-old girl.

The man armed himself with a knife and made demands for valuables before leaving the premises with a guitar.

He was confronted by a second female family member outside the house and a further scuffle has ensued.

The female was assaulted by the offender, but did not sustain serious injuries.

The man then left empty-handed on foot, heading east along Murray Road and then south on Diamond Street.

The quick-thinking victim managed to take a photo of the unknown man as he left the scene.

Investigators have released the image in the hope someone may recognise him.

The man is perceived as being tall with a slim to medium build and brown eyes.

He was wearing dark clothing with face coverings and a blue beanie, and was carrying a foldable shopping trolley.

Police believe the man may have been searching through nearby hard rubbish collections prior to the incident.

Anyone with any information, who witnessed the incident or who may have had dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
