Police are investigating the serious assault of a homeless man in Coolangatta this morning.
Initial investigations indicate the 59-year-old man was assaulted whilst he was sleeping on the ground at the side of a building on Griffith Street.
It is believed the man was assaulted with a broken glass bottle.
The victim was transported to The Tweed Hospital where he is being treated for a possible fractured eye socket, fractured nose and fractured left clavicle.
Police are appealing any witnesses who were in the area at the time and may have dash cam vision to contact police.
