Police Investigate Serious Assault At Surfers Paradise 19 October

A man has been charged following an alleged serious assault in Surfers Paradise last night, 18 October.

Police were called to Cavill Avenue around 11:30pm following reports of a disturbance involving a man allegedly threatening members of the public with a broken glass bottle.

A short time later, officers responded to reports that the same man had allegedly struck another man, a 19-year-old from Gilston, with a piece of glass following a verbal altercation.

The man then fled the scene on foot.

Officers located him a short time later, and he was taken into custody.

The victim was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have since charged a 33-year-old Clayfield man with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and he is expected to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on 20 October.

No other physical injuries were reported.
