Police investigate sexual assault on Melbourne tram

Transit police are investigating an alleged sexual assault on a tram in Melbourne's CBD last week.

It is alleged a man sexually assaulted a woman on a tram at the intersection of Elizabeth and Bourke streets about 11pm on Friday, 13 January.

Investigators were told the man got off the tram and fled the scene on foot.

The 22-year-old Frankston man then boarded another tram nearby, where he was arrested.

He was released pending further enquiries.
