Police investigate South Melbourne sexual assault

South Melbourne police are investigating a sexual assault which occurred in South Melbourne last month, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told a 23-year-old woman was walking along York Street about 4.50pm on Monday 11 September.

As she walked past a service station a man who had been driving a silver Holden Commodore attempted to talk to the victim.

She ignored the man who walked around his car and obstructed the victim.

As she walked past he sexually assaulted her.

The victim confronted the man who then verbally abused her.

The woman continued on and reported the matter to police.

The offender is described as approximately 180cm tall, middle aged with a stocky build.

At the time of the offence he was wearing a black and white striped hooded top, grey camouflage pants and casual shoes.

Investigators have released images of a man that they believe may be able to assist with their enquires. They have also released images of a car in the area at the time.
