Police investigate suspicious fires at Ballina

Detectives from Richmond Police District are investigating two suspicious fires at Ballina overnight.

About 10.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 July 2019), emergency services were called to a vehicle fire on Owen Street, Ballina.

Crews from Fire & Rescue NSW arrived and extinguished the blaze.

A short time later, crews were called to a sporting clubhouse about 100m away at Missingham Park following reports of a building fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the flames; it's understood the building -- a local netball clubhouse -- has sustained damage estimated at $50,000.

A crime scene was established to determine the cause of the blazes.

Police believe these incidents may be linked and are treating them as suspicious.
