Police investigate taxi ramming

Police are investigating the alleged deliberate ramming of a taxi in Flemington on Monday (10 August).

It is alleged a taxi arrived at an address on Nairn Avenue, Ascot Vale just before midday to pick up two male passengers.

The two passengers got out of the taxi in North Melbourne and approached three males standing beside a silver Audi.

The taxi driver began to drive away but was followed by one of the males in the Audi.

The Audi collided with the rear of the taxi causing the cab driver to lose control and mount a curb.

The offender continued to follow the taxi through North Melbourne into Flemington and collided with the vehicle 3-4 more times by sideswiping it.

The taxi driver, who was not injured, pulled over on Mt Alexander Road where he flagged down police.

Investigators arrested a 24-year-old Ascot Vale man who has been interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
