Police investigate theft of dog in South Melbourne

Police are seeking to identify a man following the theft of an English Staffy dog from a South Melbourne residence on Thursday.

It is understood an unknown male scaled the front fence of a Nott Street property and entered the front yard where the dog was sitting between 12.30 and 1.15pm.

The man took the dog and fled the scene by boarding the 109 tram at Graham Street, Port Melbourne heading towards the city.

The man police wish to speak with is perceived to be Mediterranean in appearance with dark hair and a short beard.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket with grey tracksuit pants and black sneakers.

Police have released images of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries and have also released an image of the dog in the hope that someone recognises either and can provide information.

Anyone with information or who recognised the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000 or lodge a confidential report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
