Police Investigate Yea Home Invasion And Fire

Alexandra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a home invasion in Yea this morning.

It is understood three unknown offenders arrived at a property on Melba Highway and knocked on the door about 1.15am.

Police were told two of them were armed with firearms and one had a machete as they confronted the occupant and entered the house.

They demanded cash and firearms from the 58-year-old victim, then assaulted him when he refused to comply.

Detectives were told they dragged him out of the house and into the boot of his own vehicle, before heading down the driveway.

The victim got out of the vehicle and was threatened again by one of the offenders, whilst the other two set the house on fire.

The offenders poured petrol onto the victim, then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Three firearms were stolen from the property during the incident.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and drove to a nearby property to call Triple Zero (000).

No arrests have been made at this stage and the investigation remains ongoing.
