Police investigating firearms discharge and evade incident at Devonport

Police are investigating a firearms discharge and evade incident in Devonport early this morning.

Around 12.43am, police responded to a report of a potential firearm discharge on Wenvoe Street. Police were informed by a witness that two vehicles were parked on the street at the time of the incident, an orange Commodore and a white utility.

Whilst police were responding to the scene, they observed an orange Commodore on Steele Street which evaded them. A short time later police located the Commodore unattended, crashed on Mersey Main Road. A search of the area for the driver was unsuccessful.

As part of the ongoing police investigation police have seized a firearm and confirmed a firearm had been discharged on Wenvoe Street. No one was injured during the incident. The investigation is following a specific line of enquiry.

Police would like to hear from anybody who saw a white Mazda utility flat tray with multiple toolboxes and a ladder on the tray or an orange Commodore in the area at the time of the incident.
