Police investigating robbery at Fortitude Valley

Detectives from Fortitude Valley have charged a man with the alleged robbery of a taxi driver in the early hours of this morning.

It will be alleged at 12:50am the driver was parked on Wickham Terrace, Fortitude Valley when three men entered his taxi and demanded his wallet.

The men allegedly pulled the driver out of the taxi and commenced punching and kicking him in the head, before leaving him injured on the roadway.

He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The three men ran from the scene with police locating one of the men nearby.

The 20-year-old Capalaba man charged with one count each of robbery, grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

Investigations are still ongoing to locate the second man who is described as of dark complexion, average build, with short dark hair, and was wearing light coloured jeans with a white t-shirt. A description of the third man is still being established.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have seen the taxi on Wickham Terrace, to contact police.
