Police investigating shooting incident at Frankston

A man has been arrested after he allegedly rushed at police with what was reported to be a machete in Frankston last night (9 February).

Police arrived at Ashleigh Avenue, locating the armed man just before 9pm.

The man rushed at attending police and one officer discharged his firearm which didn't strike the man.

He was subsequently sprayed and arrested by police, who were not injured.

The man who is believed to be aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital for assessment.

Regional detectives will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and Professional Standards Command have been notified, as per protocol when any police firearm is discharged.
