Police investigating wounding at Cairns

A 20-year-old Cairns North woman has been charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a 39-year-old Cairns woman in Cairns City overnight.

Police responded to reports of an assault on The Esplanade around 5.30pm yesterday evening (November 23) where they allegedly located the 39-year-old woman with a stab wound to her neck.

Police rendered immediate first aid at the scene.

She was taken to Cairns Hospital in a serious condition.

The 20-year-old woman was taken into custody at the scene without incident. She is due to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today (November 24).

Both women are known to each other.
