Police investigation into New Norfolk shooting ongoing

Tasmania Police is continuing to investigate an incident where police were shot at following their response to a violent family violence incident at Triffetts Road, Glenfern, on Monday 26 September 2022.

33-year-old Brighton man, Robert George Greig, is wanted by police in relation to the shooting and remains a person of interest.

"As part of the ongoing police investigation, over the past two weeks following the shooting, investigators have gathered significant information and have searched a number of houses and properties," said Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby.

"A specific line of inquiry is being followed to locate Mr Greig as well as a Holden Colorado, registration YD08IP.

"Police believe the Colorado, which was blue, may now be a different colour and displaying different number plates – however, the vehicle would have distinctive damage to its passenger side."

Investigations indicate that on the night of the shooting, the Colorado was driven in the vicinity of the New Norfolk Bridge, on Montagu Street, and CCTV footage indicates at least one other car was in the area. Police believe the driver of the vehicle may have observed the driver of the Colorado driving erratically.

"Police would like to speak to the driver of any vehicle that was on either Glenora Road or Montagu Street between Glenfern and New Norfolk around 11.50pm on Monday 26 September," Detective Inspector Morrisby said.

"I urge anyone who is helping Mr Greig avoid police, to come forward. We want this situation to end safely for everyone concerned."

Members of the public who have seen Mr Greig or the vehicle should not approach him but instead call Police on 131 444.
