Police launch investigation into assault, robbery at Wagga Wagga

Detectives are appealing for information after a man and woman were assaulted during a robbery in Wagga Wagga earlier this month.

About 6.30am on Sunday 11 April 2021, a 46-year-old woman walked outside a unit on Kokoda Street, Ashmont, after hearing noises.

Police have been told the woman was assaulted by three unknown people, who forced her back inside the unit and smashed the front window.

The group then demanded money from a second occupant, a 68-year-old man, before hitting him over the head and torso with a shovel.

It's further alleged the woman was forced onto a mattress in the lounge room, before one of the unknown persons stole her handbag.

The trio fled the scene and were last seen heading west on Kokoda Street, before turning south on Tarakan Avenue.

Police were notified and officers from Riverina Police District commenced inquiries.
