Police launch investigation into suspicious unit fire at Tamworth

An investigation is underway after fire damaged a unit in the state’s northeast yesterday.

About 8.20am (Thursday 20 January 2022), emergency services were called to a unit on North Street, Tamworth, following reports of a fire.

NSW Fire and Rescue arrived a short time later and extinguished the blaze; however, the home sustained minor damage.

No one was home at the time, and no injuries have been reported.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed suspicious activity to come forward.
