Police have charged a man following an alleged armed robbery in Eli Waters this morning, 12 May.
Around 6.30am, an armoured vehicle pulled into the car park of a shopping centre on Ibis Boulevard to deliver cash to an ATM.
It will be alleged a man driving an orange Ford Ranger stopped behind the armoured vehicle, exited the Ranger and threatened one of the security officers with a firearm, demanding cash.
A physical altercation ensued, and the security officer fired a shot at the tyre of the Ranger, before the man allegedly fled the scene in the vehicle with a significant quantity of cash. No one was injured.
The Ranger was intercepted on Craignish Road in Craignish around 7.20am, where it will be alleged the man made threats of being armed to police at which time a service firearm was drawn.
A number of shots were fired from the service firearm. No one was injured as a result of these shots being fired.
It is then alleged the offender drove off before being apprehended a short distance away.
A significant quantity of cash was located inside the vehicle.
Subsequent investigations determined the firearm the man had been in possession of was a gel blaster.
Crime scenes were declared on Ibis Boulevard and on Craignish Road.
A 43-year-old man has since been charged with one count of armed robbery and is due to face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court court tomorrow, 13 May.
The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
