Police lay armed robbery charges at Dutton Park

Police have charged a man after the alleged armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle in Dutton Park yesterday.

It will be alleged just after 4am a man armed with a firearm tapped on a window of a red Holden Commodore station wagon parked on TJ Doyle Memorial Drive where a 54-year-old man was sleeping in the backseat.

The man made demands for the car and keys. The 54-year-old complied and was not injured.

The man drove off in the vehicle south towards Fairfield Park.

Around 2pm police observed a man driving the stolen vehicle in Villa Street at Yeronga. The man exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit which resulted in the man being arrested without incident at nearby railway tracks.

A 31-year-old Yeronga man has been charged with armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Anyone with further information or dashcam of the red Commodore is urged to contact police.
