Police Lay Armed Robbery Charges At Gold Coast 5 July

A man has been charged following a series of armed robberies across the Gold Coast today, 5 July.

It will be alleged that between 11.30am and 11.40am, the man attempted to steal two vehicles from people in a shopping centre car park on Brisbane Road, Labrador.

He is then alleged to have entered a nearby shop, also on Brisbane Road, where he threatened the employee with a knife, demanding his car keys and stealing a grey Toyota Yaris.

It will be further alleged the man then attended liquor stores on Eggersdorf Road at Ormeau and Finnegan Way at Coomera as well as a tobacconist on Foxwell Road, Coomera where he threatened staff members with a knife and stole cash, liquor and cigarettes.

The stolen Yaris was tracked by police to Currumburra Road, Ashmore where he was taken into custody at 2.08pm without incident.

A 22-year-old Guanaba man has been charged with a total of 22 offences including six counts each of armed robbery and offence to buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines, three counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence and obstruct police.

Bail has been refused and he is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, 6 July.
