Police lay armed robbery charges at Townsville 2 December

Police have charged a man with armed robbery after he allegedly assaulted a taxi driver at Pimlico this morning.

Emergency services were called at approximately 4.15am to reports a taxi driver had been assaulted during a fare evasion.

The passenger left the scene on foot, but was arrested by police nearby a short time later.

The 23-year-old Hughenden man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday, December 4.

The taxi driver remains in the Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition with head injuries.
