Police lay arson charge, Gatton

Darling Downs detectives have charged a 21-year-old Gatton man following a house fire during the early hours of this morning.

Around 3.30am emergency services were called to a College Road residence in Gatton where the back of a house was found fully engulfed.

Earlier police also attended a small fire out the back of a shop on Eastern Drive, the business was not affected.

The 21-year-old man was arrested just after 4am and has since been charged with one count each of arson, lighting an unauthorised fire, possession of utensils used in the connection of smoking dangerous drugs and stealing.

He is due to appear in the Gatton Magistrates Court on June 28.
