Police lay assault charges at Woolloongabba

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman known to him and others who came to her aid overnight at Woolloongabba.

Around 9.20pm last night, police were called after woman was observed being allegedly assaulted by a 20-year-old man known to her.

A 48-year-old man attempted to stop the attack when the 20-year-old turned and allegedly punched him, knocking him to the ground and continued to assault him.

A 23-year-old man tried to intervene when the 20-year-old allegedly produced a bladed weapon and slashed him across the back. The man sustained a non-life-threatening wound.

A group of men restrained the man until police arrived a short time later.

The young woman was transported to hospital for assessment of minor physical injuries.

A 20-year-old Spring Hill man has been denied police bail and charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence). He was also charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and while armed.

He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, December 20.
