Police lay charges after Cheltenham incidents

A man has been arrested after a series of incidents in Cheltenham this afternoon.

It is alleged the man stole alcohol from a shopping centre on Nepean Highway about 11.30am.

The 37-year-old is alleged to have attempted to get into a police vehicle armed with a knife before police were forced to deploy OC spray.

The man fled onto Nepean Highway where he attempted to get into a car.

He moved onto a second vehicle, opened the door and sat behind the driver.

The vehicle was cordoned off by police, the man exited the vehicle and was disarmed before being arrested.

No one was injured during the incident.

The Endeavour Hills man has been charged with nine offences including assault an emergency worker, assault with weapon and theft.

He has been remanded to appear in Moorabbin Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
